Coachella round up, Addison Rae is a star & Katy Perry in Space >_<
okay this week has been wild. we have so much to catch up on! the last few of my TGIFs have focused on one topic but we have so, so much to chat about today. Coachella! Addison Rae continuing to release new music! Space 👽 eek! && it’s kind of all interconnected sort of like us & the universe yanno? so let’s get into it!
Where to even start? I think chronologically is best. Coachella kicked off last week & it was amazing and underwhelming all at the same time. I say this as someone consuming everything through a screen. Because while I don’t judge how anyone spends their money (or future earnings), I won’t be financing a music festival with a payment plan.
The highs of Coachella:
Lady Gaga’s performance in its entirety. A 20 song set list, multiple costume changes, insanely creative set design. It was truly one of the best Coachella performances ever & one of her best as well. It’s nice to see her come back better than ever (which is more than we can say for some musicians - we’ll get to it).

Addison Rae performing (& also just walking) around Coachella in this Chloe dress. We’ll get to her new music in a second - she performed Aquamarine this go around but chances of her coming back up on stage this weekend to perform her new single Headphones On? I’d bet on it. It worked really, really well for Sabrina Carpenter last year (she intro’d Espresso @ Coachella) so maybe this will be the song of the summer?
Charli XCX bringing out almost every guest she possible could (Lorde, Billie Eilish, and Troye Sivan) & then wearing this sash to the after party. Bonus points for Kylie Jenner learning the apple dance while in the crowd. But back to the sash! So many people took this so seriously? Like it’s a joke - she’s being cute. To be fair Charli XCX didn’t just have ‘one great album’ as some people are saying. It was a cultural phenomenon - BRAT was everywhere - to the point it was overkill. It’s the closest we’ve been to monoculture in a very long time. So maybe she should’ve headlined?
On to the lows of Coachella:
For me there wasn’t one specific low that I can put my finger on, but it does feel like Coachella has lost its luster just a bit. & we just talked about multiple artists that performed being part of the ‘high’ so it’s not that. I think it’s the commercialization of the event. In my mind this festival never fully recovered from the closely related ‘revolve-fest’ that happened a few years back. Revolve-fest is still around and there are a ton of other brands present & so many influencers shilling product. All of it feels antithetical to a music festival. Add to that the high price of admission and it all feels a bit inauthentic, not as real as it once was. or maybe that’s just me?
Ok up next our dear Addison Rae is releasing another single today - Headphones On. She’s getting some heat online for the promotion of it all, which simply includes her singing along to lyrics from music playing on an iPod nano. The critique being that she is ‘trying too hard’ - to which I say did you see Katy Perry’s latest album roll out? But I digress - I actually chatted a bit about Addison in a TGIF awhile back highlighting that the biggest issue I think people have with her is #1 the TikTok of it all. Gen pop still does not take that app seriously and so they’re finding it very difficult to adopt someone who came from the app into stardom. #2 the Kardashian link which definitely felt like a ploy from management to launch Addison into fame. People don’t look kindly on the Kardashians and I think that stigma has stuck a bit even as Addison has moved far away from that scene & into one that is much more respected by actual artists. All to say I am LONG on Addison Rae - if she was a stock I’d say buy! & I cannot wait to hear another bop from her.
ok last but not least let’s talk about space. ugh. it feels like do we have to do it? In case you were living under a rock and didn’t know - Jeff Bezos sent women into space this week - his fiancee, Lauren Sanchez, Gayle (aka Oprah’s BFF) & Katy Perry to be exact. They were up there for 11 minutes I think? I’m not sure I find the entire ordeal preposterous. We’ve allowed these people to have so much wealth, they have nothing left to do than waste resources getting flung outside earth’s atmosphere. Katy Perry had some crazy interview quotes that leads me to believe this gaggle of girls living in Montecito don’t have internet connections because what person in 2025 is saying ‘put the ass in astronaut?’
like get a grip. do you have a pulse on what’s happening in the world right now? I don’t have much else to say on the topic solely because Pitchfork reviewed Katy going to space & said everything I was thinking much more eloquently than I could have.
until next week! <3 <3 <3 listen to headphones on 🎧 it’s of course a bop
